Originally, satin was the name given to the creation of a fabric using a specific weave of threads, which had a sheen due to twisting. The weft threads are thinner than the thick and strong warp threads. Nowadays, satin refers to fabrics produced in this way. Satin is made from pure cotton with a satin weave, so the fabric is quite easy to confuse with silk due to its external resemblance. The fabric is shiny and smooth on the outside, and matte and slightly rough on the inside. This effect is achieved due to the satin weave of the threads. The basis of this technique is a dense thread, and a thinner thread is twisted and laid on the front side so that there are 4 threads in the base, and only 1 thread in the weft. The intensity of the shine depends on the strength of the twisting of the threads: the more twist, the brighter the glow. The fabric is durable and resistant to physical impact due to the addition of diagonally arranged threads in the weave. Cotton often undergoes a mercerization procedure. This procedure helps to improve the quality of dyeing and the strength of the fabric.
